I recently came across an amazing charity called Spread the Word, who work to improve access to literature for homeless people in the UK. They build libraries in homeless shelters and encourage people living on the streets to read.
While you might think there are more pressing needs for people in such a terrible situation, literature can be a real comfort to homeless people, and make them feel less alone in their daily lives. Improving literacy can also help them in their efforts to get their lives back on track. I wrote a piece for the Spread the Word blog about what literature means. Go check it out and support them today!
